ABOUT

Alan Darker

1 min read

Alan's been immersed in soul scene since the late 70s, a true veteran who's seen it all and spun it all. He'll modestly deny being a record collector (despite owning a copy of TMG 513) but don't be fooled - he's accumulated some selection over the years with a special focus on 60s and 70s soul.

Spinning records since the mid-80s, Alan's the first to admit he's gotten better over the years. His DJ journey has taken him to some wonderfully unexpected places - from launching new Fall albums to DJing at Wayne Hemmingway's charity supermarket - but through decades of soul nights and more all-nighters than he cares to count, he's never deviated from his core mission: keeping things soulful.

These days you'll find Alan holding down his regular spot as long-standing resident at Manchester's Fish Ain't Bitin' where he weaves together Deep Soul, Uptempo Northern, 80s classics, Y2K releases, rare groove and classic steppers.

For the Home Run Soul Club Weekender, Alan has promised to leave the Sunday slow burners at home and concentrate purely on filling the dance floor... and after over 30 years on the Manchester soul scene and beyond, he knows exactly how to!

Check out some of his faves -

Richard Popcorn Wylie – How Did I Lose You (ABC)
Valerie Simpson – Sinner Man, Don’t Let Him Catch You (Tamla)
Ernest Fitzgerald – Ace in the Hole (Daniels)
Curtis Mayfield feat Linda Clifford – Aint No Love Lost (Curtom)
James Cobbin & Prime Cut – Caught in the Middle (Tuckwood Records)
